Texture Pack Summary
The Medieval Texture Pack by GameMode One is a delightfully gritty and dark overhaul for Minecraft Bedrock that aims to transform your world into a classic fantasy kingdom. Available on the Minecraft Marketplace for 830 Minecoins, this pack bundles together a massive collection of 20 bonus skins alongside the main world overhaul. I was especially impressed by the immense creativity on display here, making the entire world feel like a wonderful journey back to a time of knights and royalty.
One of the major highlights of this Texture Pack for me was exploring the trial chambers and checking out the updated 1.21 features. The tough blocks are easily some of my favourite textures in the entire game, and the way the chiselled tough bricks look in this pack is absolutely stellar. The general world palette leans heavily into less vibrant, saturated tones which perfectly enhances the ancient theme. It is rare to see a pack that is just over six years old continue to receive full feature updates, and the dedication to keeping the block palette fresh deserves a lot of applause.
While the environment blocks look fantastic, there were a few moments in the armoury where the textures felt a bit blurry and pixelated during my testing. Up close, the heavy smudgeness on the stone and iron gear was quite noticeable, though the unique shapes of the weapons do help to lessen that roughness. The pack does not rely on any advanced modern features like PBR or heightmaps, but the artistic style is so strong that it still creates a beautifully atmospheric experience. Because of how well the unique mob designs and blocks capture that perfect gothic mood, I am giving this a very solid 8 out of 10.
Pros
- Highly creative monster overhauls: The wooden mechanical creepers and the deep sea diver warden look incredibly unique.
- Massive bonus skin selection: Including 20 themed fantasy skins inside the Minecraft Marketplace package provides excellent extra value.
- Excellent trial chamber blocks: The tough bricks and copper gratings fit the historical aesthetic beautifully.
- Commendable long term updates: The pack has been updated for version 1.21 despite originally releasing back in 2018.
- Atmospheric ancient city: The colour is pulled right out of the deep slate structures making the bright lava pop gorgeously.
Cons
- Noticeable texture blur: When looking at the grass blocks and passive mobs up close there is a prominent pixelated blur.
- Divisive villager faces: Stretching flat faces over the cube heads looks a bit awkward and lacks visual diversity.
- Blurry armour sets: The equipment sets in the armoury are heavily pixelated and look a bit rough around the edges.
- Offputting nether vegetation: The crimson nether wart blocks look like giant brains and resemble red baked beans from afar.
- Deceptive zombie designs: The standard zombies look almost exactly like the villagers which can make combat quite confusing.
