Texture Pack Summary
The Candy Texture Pack by Minecraft is a long standing addition to the Minecraft Marketplace that aims to turn your entire world into a sugary wonderland. Released back in 2019, this pack costs 490 Minecoins and promises a tantalising treat for anyone who loves bright colours and dessert themed builds. I was really curious to see how a pack made by the official developers would hold up because they have the power to change absolutely anything they want within the Minecraft Bedrock engine.
As soon as I loaded in, I felt like I had stepped directly into a chocolate factory where everything looked edible. The menus have a really nice happy blue style, and the world is filled with pastel pinks, greens, and textures that look like chocolate chips or cake. Some of the mob designs are genuinely brilliant, like the Slime which has been turned into a giant wobbly jelly, and the Creeper which looks like a stacked ice cream treat with a cherry on top. However, I was a bit disappointed that the water was still just normal blue water when it could have easily been changed to look like milk or liquid chocolate to fit the theme.
While the attention to detail on individual blocks is impressive, I found that they do not always work well together for a standard survival world. It is a fantastic experience if you want to build a specific candy kingdom, but trying to build a normal house or a castle feels a bit clashing because the textures are so specialised. The hostile mobs like the Wither Skeleton look great as gingerbread men, but the overall brightness might be a bit much for a long term play through. It is a solid 8 out of 10 for the sheer creativity and fun factor, even if it is not a pack I could use for every single adventure.
Pros
- Official developer quality: Being made by Minecraft means the implementation is perfect and the custom UI looks very polished and professional.
- Creative mob designs: Turning the Creeper into an ice cream and the Slime into a wobbly jelly is a genius way to fit the dessert theme.
- Gingerbread hostile mobs: The Wither Skeletons and normal Skeletons look fantastic as gingerbread characters which makes the Nether feel much less intimidating.
- Affordable price point: At only 490 Minecoins on the Minecraft Marketplace, it is a very budget friendly way to completely change the look of your game.
- Fun dessert textures: Blocks like the cake and the chocolate chip dirt make the world feel like a giant tray of sweets which is great for themed builds.
Cons
- Poor world cohesion: The blocks are so unique that they do not always blend well together when you are trying to build a normal base or structure.
- Plain water textures: It feels like a missed opportunity to leave the water as plain blue when it could have been turned into milk or soda.
- Unfitting Creeper sounds: Even though the Creeper looks like a delicious ice cream, it still makes the standard scary hiss which feels a bit out of place.
- Overwhelming brightness: The constant use of pastel pinks and bright whites can be a bit straining on the eyes after playing for a long time.
- Limited survival use: Unless you specifically want to live in a candy world, the textures make it difficult to play a regular survival game without it feeling a bit silly.
