Texture Pack Summary

The BlockPixel resource pack by RainbowPixel is a vibrant and unique Minecraft Bedrock texture pack that has been a fan favourite for over five years. Currently rated 4.6 stars on the Minecraft Marketplace, this pack costs 830 Minecoins and aims to create an ancient and mysterious world using square patterns and pixel art. I was really excited to dive into this one because the thumbnail looks a bit like Terraria, but once you load in, it has a completely different feel that reminds me of old school cartoons.

From the moment I stepped into the world, I was impressed by the quality and the array of colours. The water has a cool square droplet animation, and the dirt and grass blocks feature fantastic pixel designs that make the game feel like a retro masterpiece. One of the best surprises was the amount of block and mob variation that is not even mentioned in the description. I found different styles of grass and even zombies and creepers with multiple colour variants. The Iron Golem is easily the star of the show with an epic 3D model that features vines and even logs sticking out of its head and back.

Exploring the villages and the Armory showed off even more of the polished nature of this pack. The villagers have diverse faces with beards and moustaches, and the iron doors have a great security level look that makes them feel big and bulky. While I loved the mechanical feel of the world, I did notice some heavy motion blur on certain blocks like logs and copper, which was a bit upsetting for my eyes. The armour sets are decent, though some of the shapes feel a bit repetitive across the different materials. Overall, this is a very strong 8 out of 10 pack that offers way more than it promises on the store page.

Pros

  • Unique 3D Iron Golem: The custom model with vines and logs is one of the most creative designs I have ever seen for a golem.
  • Unlisted mob variations: It is awesome to find different colours for creepers and zombies that were not even mentioned in the pack info.

  • Polished pixel aesthetic: The square patterns and blocky shading give the entire world a high quality and nostalgic cartoon feeling.
  • Excellent block diversity: Having multiple textures for grass and dirt makes the environment look natural rather than just a repeating pattern.
  • Long term creator support: It is great to see a pack that is five years old still receiving active updates and improvements on the Minecraft Marketplace.

Cons

  • Upsetting motion blur: Some blocks like the logs and copper have a strange blur effect when you move which can be a bit distracting.
  • Repetitive weapon shapes: The swords and tools seem to use the same basic shapes across different materials rather than having unique designs.
  • Plain mob designs: After seeing the amazing Iron Golem, some mobs like the spider and the breeze feel a bit basic and plain.
  • Inconsistent sheep colours: When you shear a coloured sheep, the tail and base stay white which can be a bit of an immersion break.
  • Noisy armour stands: The weapons look massive and a bit cluttered when they are placed on armour stands compared to how they look in your hand.
