Texture Pack Summary

The Backrooms ResourcePack by Lostduckies is a horror themed Minecraft Bedrock texture pack that brings a chilling and mysterious atmosphere to your world. For 830 Minecoins, this 32x32 resolution pack promises a total overhaul with custom mobs, a unique UI, and a terrifying new look for your favourite biomes. As the first release from this creator, I was excited to see if it could stand out in the crowded Backrooms category on the Minecraft Marketplace.

From the second I loaded in, the environment felt incredibly gloomy. The pack uses environmental storytelling perfectly; for example, I noticed skeletons buried inside the dirt blocks, which immediately makes the world feel like a graveyard. The passive mobs are a massive highlight for me because seeing a two headed Llama and a Pig wearing a crown with scary eyes was a total surprise. While the menus look sleek in their new grayscale style, I did run into a small loading error on the main screen, though it did not stop me from diving into the gameplay.

As I explored further, the corruption theme really took over, especially on the hostile mobs. The Creeper loosely looks like a "Warden Junior" with a visible soul in its chest, and the actual Warden is terrifying with a custom 3D rib cage sticking out of its body. I loved the mechanical look of the Iron Golem’s moving arms, but some parts of the pack felt a bit noisy, like the chainmail and gold armour sets. The Nether is especially spooky with giant faced Ghasts, although I felt the Ender Dragon could have used a few more anarchic spikes to match the high detail of the other mobs. Overall, this is a strong 8 out of 10 pack that horror fans will really enjoy.

Pros

  • Amazing 3D Warden model: The custom rib cage piercing through its chest makes this one of the scariest Warden designs on the Marketplace.
  • Creative passive mob variants: You get unique designs like two headed Llamas and regal horned Sheep that make the overworld feel unsettling.
  • Mechanical Iron Golem animations: The 3D model for the Golem looks very professional, especially with the moving parts in its arms when it walks.
  • Intricate environmental details: Hidden eyes in Dark Oak logs and skeletons in the dirt blocks add a layer of horror to every single block you break.
  • Detailed Netherite armour set: The custom faces etched into the helmet and chest plate make the endgame gear look incredibly powerful and unique.

Cons

  • Repetitive block patterns: Having skeletons in every single dirt block can look a bit cluttered when you are looking at a large hillside or field.
  • Simplistic Ender Dragon design: Compared to the high detail Warden, the Dragon looks a bit too smooth and needs more sharp or corrupted edges.
  • Overwhelming armour textures: The designs for chainmail and gold armour are a bit noisy and the colour palette can make it hard to see the details clearly.
  • Missing custom font: Even though the pack info mentions a custom font, it did not seem to show up in my chat or menus during the review.
  • Similar mob head textures: Mobs like the Zombie and Skeleton share the same corruption lump on their heads which can make them look a bit repetitive.
